John Goodacre Marshall

My GG grandfather was Thomas Whittle Marshall born 1853 in Loughborough. I'm trying to trace my GGG grandfather (and beyond) who I believe was John Goodacre Marshall born 1819 in Wymeswold.

I have found census records showing

I Can’t find the maiden names of Harriet or Elizabeth and why FreeBMD records show 2 marriages for John Goodacre Marshall both in Loughborough in 1848 and 1850. Any help would be appreciated.

The 1850 marriage in Free BMD has a Harriet Hallam on the same page so that looks likely to be the marriage record you are after?

The same site also does a deaths search which gives ages at death for the years that the old index didn't record:

1860 Q1 Harriet Marshall , Loughborough, age 34

There's also a marriage on Free BMD Q4 1860 for a John "Goodwere" Marshall and an Elizabeth Stevenson (I looked at the image the entry was transcribed from and though its dire and difficult to make out I do think it may say Goodacre)

Neither of the above marriages are turning up in Leicestershire Parish Registers either on FS or FindMyPast so I suspect they were either at a Registrar's Office or possibly were Non Conformist of some flavour.
The Annie G daughter in 1871 aged 14 leads me to suspect that Elizabeth was a widow when they married so Stevenson may not have been her maiden name - tracking her back in the census returns may find out more but I have run out of time :-)

In 1851 John's occupation is post messenger
The 1848 marriage is

Mary Lawrence, full age. Spinster, residence Sparrow Hill,  father James Lawrence Cordwainer
Both signed the register

witnesses
Isaac  {??}  signed (but surname difficult to read)
Ann Lawrence  marks X
John Twells signed

and there is a 'possible' death register entry
1849 Q2 Mary Marshall Loughborough, age 25

So if the second marriage shows he was a widower that could confirm the theory - looks like he had a taste for wedding cake!

Following up the information found by ticketyboo on John Goodacre MARSHALL with father named as William, there is a possible marriage on FamilySearch:

Marriage 11 May 1817 Wimeswold, Leicestershire - William MARSHALL and Hannah GOODACRE.

(I haven't found John's baptism yet.)

Marriage at Wimeswold - 11 May 1817 - by Banns, with the consent of friends (seems to be the norm in this parish register).

Both parties said to be from Wimeswold, and they signed.  Witnesses:  Samuel and Elizabeth Goodacre.
