Would like to find relatives to return a letter
« on: Wednesday 11 December 19 18:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am wondering if anyone could help with getting this letter back to the right family.
I have researched all I can and am now lost.
The letter was written by Maria in 1879 when she was living at London Road Ipswich to the lady who has it Grandfather ,they have kept it for all these years.

Maria I have discovered was Mary Ann Sparke born 1866 in Bury St Edmund's Suffolk ,her father was Gregory Sparke and her mother was Mary Ann Wiseman .Gregory died a couple of years after the letter and all was left to Maria (on the census he was a gentleman)
I found Mary marrying in Ipswich  2nd August 1893 to Edward Alfred Lowe ,in 1901 I found them in Lewisham with a daughter Maud bn 1895 and a servant .
The strange thing is in 1905 her husband Edward died and I have found workhouse records for a Mary Ann Lowe and daughter Maud by Dec that year.
The workhouse admissions go on till middle of 1906 but Maud isn't with her then I lose her ? ,
Not sure how a lady who obviously had money would end up in workhouse so quickly after her husbands death when she should of been quite comfortable and what happened to her
I have told the lady who has the letter I would ask for help and she was eager to do this as she would like Maria's (Mary Ann ) descendants to have it .
Any help most appreciated

Is this daughter Maud?

Could this be her in the 1911?

Do you think that it is definitely Mary Ann and Maud in the workhouse ? I am just questioning my finding because of Mary Ann's beginnings

That could be Maud and that is her birth ,I have looked at a couple of marriages  for her but one ended up living in Australia and the birth year   is wrong on her headstone.
I cannot find Mary Ann in 1911 so my guess she married again after 1906 and that's why the workhouse visits stopped.
I can't find a marriage and by putting in Mary Ann and just born Bury St Edmunds it comes up with nothing .
There is a burial record for her husband on deaceasedonline but I am not sure what info that would give me that could help

I would of thought it this was her she would of left anything to Maud and as far as I can tell she only had the one child ?

The only way to find out would be to order the will, cost £1.50 but there will be a long wait for it.  The find a will people have been inundated with orders and are trying to clear the backlog.

I am assuming that Sidney is a relative probably from Edward's line somewhere.

I see that Gregory Sparke was born in 1809 and the 1861 census gives his occupation as land owner so that is presumably where the money came from.
