Anyone have any information on this type of thing?
« on: Sunday 15 December 19 16:13 GMT (UK) »
Briefly: This was in the possession of my Grandfather. The family is from the Cotswolds. The only record of this death is in Eckington Derbyshire. I imagine anyone this old at this time would have to be with family.
I have two theories 1) was it sent to grampys family to tell them of the death ( If so I need to keep researching) 2) is this the sort of this someone may have been sent from archives in the early days of genealogy.
I have done a lot on this already and as usual the Roots family are my 'go to' when I am stuck

I think your theory No: 1 is the correct one.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

As Carol has said it is a memorial card.  It is a very nice one.  Most of these cards were very plain with a black edging and the name and date of death.  Some also have a phrase like passed away, went to sleep, went to heaven etc.

Do you have the burial details? (as you comment that you "need to keep researching").

The burial of Sarah Cummings is listed on the Eckington parish website. You'd need to purchase credits to see the details:
http://www.eckington-pc.gov.uk/the_cemetery/cempages/cemlogin.html
Bradbury (Sedgeley, Bilston, Warrington)
Cooper (Sedgeley, Bilston)
Kilner/Kilmer (Leic, Notts)
Greenfield (Liverpool)
Holyland (Anywhere and everywhere, also Holiland Holliland Hollyland)
Pryce/Price (Welshpool, Liverpool)
Rawson (Leicester)
Upton (Desford, Leics)
Partrick (Vera and George, Leicester)
Marshall (Westmorland, Cheshire/Leicester)

It's visually very "Wedgewood potteries", isn't it? As others day, a memorial card, but what a pretty one. I found one once used as a bookmark in a second hand book I bought, but was unable to link it to anyone. ( I was less than 20 at the time) I must admit, I've not seen it for decades...wonder where it might be?
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

I don’t have burial details at all, the problem is that Eckington in Derbyshire is so far away from any of my other relatives at that time. All of her children appear to still be in the stow on the wold area at the time of her death. Thanks for the link I will have a look. Thanks for the input.

Try the Eckington link - with luck it will show you if Sarah was buried with anyone else, in which case you'll have some more names you can try to link to the family  :)

If she was 92 when she died she was born around 1787.  Does this fit with what you know of your Cummings family?
