Phantom PMs
« on: Sunday 15 December 19 20:32 GMT (UK) »
Apologies if this has been asked before.

I saw a notice indicating that I had 12 unread PMs in my inbox. I duly scrolled all the way through my inbox, page by page, and found and read 4 messages that were flagged as 'new'. There are no more flagged messages, but the notice now says there are 8 unread PMs.

How do I find the 8 messages that remain so obstinately hidden so that I can read and unflag them?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Just a thought~

If you go to your Profile and then to Personal Messaging, you will see a check box   'Show most recent personal messages at top'.

If it's left unchecked it might cause problems. A few of us had this problem many years ago.

Funny thing is I still seem to have only 8 on the notification yet there are more and I have read them all.
For a while there were six notified but actually more .
Perhaps someone is very busy on this popular site.
Viktoria.

I can't find 'Personal Messaging' in 'My Profile'. Only 'Summary', 'Account Settings and 'Forum Profile'. And it isn't in any of those three options.

Flummoxed.

Thanks, both. Box now ticked, and also one that says something about removing a label when another one is applied. I still, apparently, have 8 unread messages that I cannot find. Maybe once I have shut down and restarted they will disappear.
