i have spent weeks searching and find nothing about james fowler
« on: Friday 20 December 19 22:22 GMT (UK) »
hello. i m wondering if anyone could help me try find my partners grandad who sadly passed away before he even knew him.
his name is James Fowler born in 1913  place of birth ?????
he married Margaret Evans in coventry in 1952 and sadly passed in 1976 in coventry.

i have been told he had loads of siblings and he had a fish business in Aberdeen and was in ww2 but i can not find anycensus of him in Coventry or Aberdeen. So i have frustratingly hit a brick wall in the family tree as i can not find a single piece of documents about him or even the names of his parents or where he was even from..I have spent months going round in circles.

thank you so much xx

I guess that's your tree on Ancestry that gives his birth as 22/01/1913 Scotland? Have you tried looking on Scotland's people?

Also do you have his marriage certificate as that would give his father's name?

The one document you could get would be his marriage certificate to give more information to start you off such as fathers name/occupation and witness names can also be helpful.

There is a birth entry showing on Scotlands People:

Have you viewed this entry? You can view this online.

His birth with that date is on Scotland's people. You need credits to view it. His father was David and his mother Caroline.

Sorry Monica, I missed your post.

Probably good if you get some units on SP www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk that will help you work back further.

James' birth cert should include the date and place of his parents marriage to help you with your research.

Just from the main search page (you need to view the whole original image) for 1911, this could be the family in St Nicholas, Aberdeen City:

David 33
Caroline 35
David 15
Eleanor 14
Alexr 6
Mary A 3
Elsie B 1

Monica:

PS: Carol, he does make you smile doesn't he. I do the same when I see it, often look up and smile with him. First Christmas without him...

There is only one main entry on the marriage register for a David Fowler to a Caroline. This shows in 1896 in Aberdeen Old Machar (ref 168/2 12).

There are three surnames showing for Caroline: Grant, Butler and McDonald. The original image of the marriage reg will hopefully let you see why there are three surnames for her (such as a previous marriage etc). Because of the 3 names, hard to see for now what her maiden name was.
