identify this regiment

hi
   i ve posted this photo on a few different sites
but still no deffinite recognition,
best info i can give is the photo is taken
in pangbourne either  1933 or 39
and is with a 2nd photo  with sas concentration camp
Aldershot written on the back
the 2nd photo i cant lay my hands on atmo,
my best guess is the gordon highlanders,
but i don t know whos in the photos thats related to me,

any help would be appreciated

Super photo, shirt sleeve order, Highlanders, can't go any further. headdress should be a clue.

Just might be Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in France 1940.

Super picture - looks like a good identifiable hatbadge on leftmost soldier.

Argyll's cap badge more lozenge shaped than circular which I think this is so I'd go for your guess.

 Have you asked the Gordon Highlanders Museum to look at it and perhaps advise about a Pangbourne connection ?

How are you able to define that is was taken in one of two specific years?

Well, it's not the tropics, French Campaign only took two months. Subject may be 51st Highland Division.

          the reason for the different years is i m getting old and forgetful
place and date was written on the back but i ve forgot where
i put the origional,
i think it was 39 but i m not 100% on that,

i ve few photos i d love to find answers for,
one in particular concerns a piper from ww1
a john mackay 9488 seaforth highlanders,
if your familar with Trevor Royles, Flowers of the forest,
the cover picture on the front is a seaforth piper at the somme,
now the John MacKay i m refering to was there with the seaforth 7th battalion,
i have a photo of him taken in 1918 and i m reasonably possitive its him
on the book cover but finding confirmation is virtually impossible

through research i ve done 1 gordon regiment was at Aldershot  in 39,
and another in singapore,

I really would try the museum.  The photo looks as if it was taken perhaps for a newspaper (rather than one of the men photographing his mates).  This could mean it was published somewhere, in a regimental journal perhaps?

There really are so few clues!

9488 was indeed with 7 Seaforths there is a medical record for him in in March 1918 suggesting he was evacuated to UK
