Welcome to Rootschat.

It may be an idea to elaborate on exactly what info. you seek & where Athgarvan is (in your subject heading) to save people having to search?

I know where it is as I 'googled' it  :) but it would make it easier for others if you incorporate it in your heading which can be done by using the 'Modify' button.

People are drawn to names/places of interest or where they may feel they can help.

Annie

Add...You don't state what info. you seek?

Hi Annie. I have changed that heading. I have published a small booklet recently about the Athgarvan PItch and Putt Club and local area. I am now contemplating a more concise and deeper history

The heading remains the same, you need to 'Save' the change once done  ;)

Can you add what other pieces of history you're interested in as this could be anything from 1000s of subjects?

Athgarvan is little more than a cross roads, doubt it has much in the way of recorded history.

Kildare eHistory might have something
http://www.kildare.ie/ehistory/

The townland is Blackrath and Athgarvan
Athgarvan is the area/village at the crossroads.

You can look at some old maps here

So like Garva (Garbh Atha) in Scottish Gaelic, a rough ford?

Skoosh.

Just to elaborate, I have already published a small booklet entitled 'a history of Athgarvan Pitch and putt club and local area'. The area is actually rich in history and I have been encouraged to put another book together with more detail. The meaning and origin of name 'Athgarvan', I have already included. I'm looking now to dig deeper into the various stories. Be it military related or just local stories of interest. The pitch and Putt club which I'm involved with was the main subject of my booklet. I added a few details of local points of interest
