Pietermaritzburg, South Africa - Chemist
« on: Tuesday 24 December 19 08:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I wonder if any of you can help me. I recently found a letter from my gg grandmother (Florence Ada Batten - nee Davies) dated 1913. She mentions her new husband (James Cameron's) sister and brother-in-law have a large chemist shop in Pietermaritzburg. She also says the brother-in-law is a councillor of the city. I wondered if there was any way of tracing this person. Is there a record/list of old chemists or city councillors from 1913.

I have attached the part of the letter.

Many thanks,

M

Oh thank you. Yes, I have all the Batten family records. It’s the new husband I am trying to trace - JAMES CAMERON born about 1875. They then moved to Vancouver, then Honolulu and San Francisco. I am trying to find James Cameron’s sister and her husband who ran a chemist and was a city councillor in Pietermaritzburg. I wondered if there were any records of chemists/councillors in 1913.
