Registration Districts
« on: Saturday 28 December 19 20:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone, just joined. Hope everyone had a great Xmas.
I created my own family tree back in the mid 70's (paper based) & returned to it in 97 on the death of my mother.

I cannot recollect when, but now gone digital making it much easier for amendments & or deletions. I visited Ireland in 98 & was amazed when an aunt provided me with a wealth of information but unfortunately no D.O.B's. My aunt was one of 13 children, of which one was my maternal grandmother who sadly passed away on 4th December 1959 some months after saving my life. An event I regret not being able to see her in person & thank her when I got older.

According to my aunt all 13 were born in Gortbrack, Blackwater Bridge in Co Kerry. I have come across a possibility for my grandmother born in the 1st quarter of 1895 in Kenmare, Co Kerry.

How does one find out which areas of Ireland are covered by which registration district?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have 227 people in tree so for now concentrating on paternal & maternal grandparents onwards.

You'll find Gortbrack is in the Civil Parish of Templenoe so Kenmare is the correct reg district

Thanks Sinann, I was about to reply to your 1st post but noticed your 2nd. That was what I was looking so that possibility is looking better. May I ask how you knew the civil parish for that area as that is what I wish to know. I have many BMD's that cover Limerick, Tipperary, Kerry, & possibly Cork & Waterford.

I put Gortbrack in here https://www.johngrenham.com/places/
Which gave me the Civil Parish and the reg district of Sneem
Cross reference that with the Reg Districts map and you can see Sneem is a dispensary district of Kenmare.
You can also see Templenoe in the list for Kenmare, click on that and you can see Gortbrack in the list of townlands.

It would have taken longer if you hadn't already asked about Kenmare.

Gortbrack townland
https://www.townlands.ie/kerry/dunkerron-south/templenoe/loughbrin/gortbrack/

It's halfway between Kenmare and Sneem.

You also have Church records

https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/

just put Surname and Templenoe in as location and search
