What was his occupation 1871, Thomas Astles.

Thomas Astles in Marston, near Northwich born about 1799/1800.
Can anyone tell me his occupation in 1871 or there abouts please.

Looks like pan smith  salt works

I think it was his son who was the Pan smith

1871 census there is thomas Astles (senior) age 70 b Marston occ Labourer in Saltworks (wife Sarah) (in 1881 Thomas age 80 was still working as a labourer)
Living next door was Thomas Astles age 45 (wife Nancy) occupation Pan Smith in Saltworks

Pan smith  is the man who made the salt making pans
Thornhill, Cresswell, Sisson, Harriman, Cripps, Eyre, Walter, Marson, Battison, Holmes, Bailey, Hardman, Fairhurst Noon-mainly in Derbys/Notts-but also Northampton, Oxford, Leics, Lancs-England
