Abraham woodhead
« on: Tuesday 31 December 19 16:43 GMT (UK) »
Afternoon all,
I have recently traced my ancestry back to a really cool guy called Abraham woodhead:
-Originally from meltham, Yorkshire
-Was a fellow at Oxford University
-Was a writer in Catholicism
-Is buried at st Pancras old church.
-Died 1678

I went to visit his tomb today and a crest was on one side (image below)

Really hoping someone on here could shed some light on it?

Thank you in advance for any help

No mention of a marriage?
So how are you linked to this chap?

There's a lengthy article about him in Athenae Oxonienses - https://archive.org/details/b24751236_0003/page/n587

At the end there's mention of a wife Sarah and daughter Bethiah, and a brother Nehemiah Holmes. However, what seems to be his will (proved PCC 23 May 1678) makes no mention of a wife or any family closer than uncles and cousins, so maybe that's incorrect.

The will also strikes me as slightly odd in that there doesn't seem to be anything in it referring to Catholic faith or practice - or perhaps it was thought prudent to keep this quiet.
