George Hudson
« on: Friday 03 January 20 13:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for the parents of George Hudson b1857 in Devon . He is in the 1871 census in Widecombe in the moor as a servant aged 13. He marries Elizabeth Jane Parsons in 1877 in Plympton
,had 5 children and dies in 1885 aged 28. I looked for him around ten years ago and thought I’d look again, but still can’t find his parents. His first two children Lottie and Russel, ended up in Wales ,but I can find no connection there, his other 3 stayed with mother . The fifth child may have been base born when she was widowed. I could do with some help. His wife remarried a ‘Newsom’.

Thanks, is that George Mason or Hudson? I have never found the birth or baptism of George Jnr anywhere or any further details of the father or a marriage for the father

I wonder whether he is actually George Hodson (bn Torpoint) who is in Stoke Damerel in 1861 with his 'unmarried' mother Susan Hodson.

In 1851 Susan Hudson is a servant in Plymouth.
HO107/1879 f292 p23

1841 Susan Hudson is living in Torpoint, still with the family she is servant to in 1851.  She is with her parents there - Her father is George though he is a shipwright

This looks like a possible, could be a misspelling, as for the occupation of father who knows? I often toyed with the possibility of an illegitimate birth

Hi -Snap
I was typing when the previous stuff was posted

Have you seen this 1861 census in Plymouth?
7 Trafalgar Crt Stoke Dameral
Susan Hodson 25 plain needle woman Portsmouth
George 5 scholer Torpoint Cornwall
Annie Hodson sister 22 plain needle woman Portsmouth
Sophia Hares cousin 18 millner Portsmouth

All the young women are unmarried so if it is him George must have lied on his marriage certificate.
But the other censuses he is on give Widecombe and Plymouth. And his death in February 1885 gives an age of 28 which would suggest a birth of 1856 rather than 1857.

Susan was buried at Stoke Dameral 22.3.1865 age 28.Died March 19th at the Workhouse
She was buried as Susan Hudson.
On the 1851 she was an unmarried servant age 18 from Portsmouth at 17 Buckland St Plymouth.

The christening at Anthony chapelry Torpoint 5 Sep 1855
Benjamin George Hudson s of Susannah Hudson  Torpoint

This is the closest I’ve come to a possible, I often wondered why there was no birth record at all for a George Hudson in the time scale, so thought he may have another forename. Unfortunately ,none of his children’s names seem to reflect this family. I would have though Susan May have figured. I just don’t know, very frustrating, but still great help, thanks.
I previously asked for witness names on the marriage, any help there?
