Marriage cert for 2010, is there an index for a ref number?
« on: Sunday 05 January 20 20:58 GMT (UK) »
Trying to obtain a 2010? marriage cert but limited info in the names and location

Year of marriage and surname of groom are based on some pics I found on fb. The bride had been married in the 90's.  e-rolls for the bride around 2006 suggest she was in Coventry and reverted to her maiden name, no results for the groom in e-rolls.

I tried online newspapers and some archived publications but no joy. The council website requires a load of personal info as a profile before I can access the registrars page, I don't even live in England so don't want to provide all that.  I prefer local certs but can't name the venue or be certain of any details, is there a GRO index available that late?

Nothing available online. It would need a visit to a records office

Thanks.

That's a several hundred mile trip I won't be making then  :( Not for one record anyway.

Very recent indexes are held at the following locations

Find index reference numbers in person
You can also search for free at:
the Library of Birmingham
Bridgend Local and Family History Centre
the City of Westminster Archives Centre
Manchester Central Library
Newcastle City Library
Plymouth Central Library
The British Library (you’ll need to register first)

from

Could you visit one of them ?

EDIT: This is assuming it is not in Scotland which is where your profile says you are
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Newcastle would probably be my nearest as I'm up near Edinburgh. It's a good 150 mile round trip but a trip down the street is beyond me a lot of the time now.

I know there wouldn't be a massive call for such recent stuff but the access coverage is a bit thin on the ground. I'm glad I'm not in Boston  :D

It would only give you a reference number - not the actual marriage cert.  You have to know which church they married in to look it up in the parish records and I'm not sure whether anything that recent would be available or still with the church

If it was a civil marriage - it can't be looked up and you have to buy a copy of the cert

It's a branch that isn't in contact with the rest of the family so that option isn't open and although it would be nice to have the cert & details they won't be life changing in terms of the tree. I have found quite a bit of background using newspapers in the 70's and 80's, nothing much after that is online at present but I do have someone that can access a few that haven't yet been digitised.

Other lines can keep me occupied, there's always plenty to hunt through with other names.
