Donald McFarlane Soldier 1779 Mull
« on: Monday 06 January 20 23:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Have found that my 5x GG Donald McFarlane was a Soldier.
He married Anabella MacLean on 4th Feb, 1777 at Kilninian & Kilmore, his residence is listed as either 'Aboss' or 'Aross'.

They had 3 children. Their daughter Effy was baptised 20th Jan, 1779 at Kilninian & Kilmore, and Donald's occupation was Soldier. Their second child, Flora, was baptised 21st July, 1785, and Donald's occupation is not listed. I assume he was in Military service between 1779 - 1784/85.

I wonder if he was a soldier in the 78t Reg't of Foot. Even if he didn't go on to become a Chelsea Pensioner, would there be a record of his enlistment/service?
