Help with 1939 Register
« on: Tuesday 07 January 20 13:09 GMT (UK) »
This is quite a long shot.

I am looking for a Miss Davis, (no first name or age known) who lived at 47 Norton Road, Kingsthorpe, Northampton.  I know she lived there in April 1942.  My father whilst in India during the war sent her a Registered Parcel from Bombay, for which I have the receipt.

I know he was stationed in Northampton and Norfolk from  1939 (dates unknown)  before he departed for India in Feb 1942 and am curious as to who she is.

Having accessed the register I am confronted with many females named   Davis and  as I do not know her dob or first name  it makes it difficult.

Any ideas if  there is an easier way to find her? Can I refine the search by address?

If you have access to Find My Past - you can search by address (just move the button over on the search page to address). You then get the option to insert Borough/District - Street - Area.

I am not familiar with the area so I may get it wrong!

You can enter the name of the street on the ‘advanced’ search page.

You get 3 Norton Roads -- Daventry, Northampton and Peterborough. In Northampton - at 47 there is a Davis family, but 2 records are blanked out meaning the person was born after 1916.

(Don't think we are allowed to give details of the 1939)

Thanks  Jen and Pennines, that's a great help.

I thought the Miss Davis could be an "Old flame" of Dad's so if of a similar age, he was born in 1920 could be her blanked out.  That's frustrating.  But another way to approach it is  if she is living with her parents I can look on ancestry for them and maybe a birth for her.  All is not lost.
