Do you have Joseph in 1901?

I don't have him anywhere other than 1911 boarding with his son..

There are a few options in Gateshead with a birth year if 1873/4

They don’t seem to fit with his occupation.
I was wondering if he or she was married and it was a second marriage but if young Joseph’s birth certificate shows her name as Cain, then she would be single.
It looks as though marriage certificate is needed.

It states Mary Ann Thompson formerly Cain.

Could Cain be a first marriage name not a maiden name do you think?

I would expect Cain to be her maiden name.
