WW1 service records for Joseph Tate

Hello

I have tried to locate the records using the usual internet sources but I cannot find the records
I'm hoping they are not part of the collection that was destroyed in the fire


I'm trying to find the ww1 service record/s for my granddad JosephTate
Birth approx 1884 5 or 6
Lived in Hebburn and served in the Durham Light Infantry and then the East yorks Regiment
Was deemed unfit for service after serving 2years and 80 days with the colours
Enlisted at Jarrow on 23 - 9 - 1914
Discharged as no longer fit for war service 25 1 1918

If they are not showing on any of the subscription sites then they were probably part of the 60% plus service records burnt during the WW2 blitz

Have you found a Medal Roll Index card for him?

Where can or can some one tell me what the codes on each card mean - especially the word "disc"
How many medals would a WW1 soldier receive if he survived the war
From the info shown on the cards about the regiments is it possible to find a map of where they fought on the front/s

(1) If you attach an image of the Medal Index Card we can explain the codes.

(2) Not counting bravery medals, the maximum number of service medals would be three:
1914 Star OR 1914-15 Star (but NOT both)
British War Medal
Victory Medal
a quick google search will show the regulations concerning medal entitlement.  Medals were issued to surviving soldiers and the next of kin of deceased soldiers.

(3)  We would need to know the regiment AND battalion to find out where Joseph served.  There are several War Diaries online.
