Where is St Magdalen Bank, Perth?
« on: Saturday 11 January 20 06:09 GMT (UK) »
I've come across the address "1 St. Magdalen Bank" in Perth for a marriage. Anyone know where this is/was? Google Maps has a St Magdalene's Road and St Magdalene's Lane, is it an old (mis-spelled) name for one of these, or somewhere else?
Ancestral names: Lewis, Watson, Hetherington, Barclay, Clark, Regan, Hunter, Murray, Robson, Todd, Carney, Comerford, Urwin, Rayson, White, Purves, Biggins, Wilson, Gibson, Graham, Curry, Kennedy, Greenlaw, Waldie, Armstrong, Hodgson, Harle, Wild, Monkhouse, Donald, Allen, Bowie, Cowe, Ogilvie, Barnes, Pattinson, Williamson, Hogg, Denholm, Kirkwood and Hewitt

St Magdalen's Road is on a steep hillside with some of the houses set up a particular steep bank. I suspect that this is the area referred to. They are now numbered in with the road, around about No.35 if my memory serves me right.

And this, possibly the name of a terrace house. In the bottom left area of the map: "Magdalen Bank".

Also, this post office directory lists the following occupants of Magdalen Bank in 1891/92:
Mrs John Chalmers
A. G. Chalmers, architect
J. Ferguson Chalmers, solicitor
John M'Gregor, late postmaster
About halfway down the second column of page 303.

I'd say that's it. The person in question lived in Cherrybank so that location would have been pretty close. Thanks all :)
