The parish registers are available on Findmypast but no Lumbs.

One census gives her birth place as Grimsby, so Grimston may be an error.

According to a tree on Ancestry, her father was born in Barkisland, Yorkshire, and had a wife named Elizabeth.

There is a baptism of a Martha, daughter of Samuel and Betty Lumb, on 27 Mar 1814 in Scammonden, and of Barkisland.

David

P.S. Another tree gives her birth as Barkisland

Just for clarification - FindMyPast Parish list for Grimston states:

Baptisms, Marriages and Burials - 1634-1755, Banns 1751-1940.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hi

Many Thanks

I think Martha Lymn is the right person. When she got married they spelt the name as Lymn. The
1851 census has it as Grimsby but all the others have it as Grimston Leicestershire.

I don't trust the public trees on Ancestry, people frequently just fill out their trees using the auto-fill feature, and one incorrect entry which was probably nothing more than a guess gets propagated around the web as if it were an established fact. Scammonden and Barkisland are in West Yorkshire and no where near Grimston or Grimsby. Anyway thanks for trying to help, it's all much appreciated.
