No, there was not a Mildred Smith living at Gipps Street Jolimont after 1903.
There are women of the name, but as mentioned, they are not identifiable as the one you are seeking.

The only other sighting I have made, with sufficient supporting evidence to be of potential value, is the birth in Corowa NSW as mentioned above.

Would Kate be on the 1903 electoral roll or was it only for married women then? Just trying to work out her whereabouts before getting on the ship.

Marital status not a factor.

It was not compulsory to enrol, and you needed to be 21 and over, and be a British Subject with a permanent address....  :)  1903 federal elections were December 1903,  rolls close prior to then for Printing etc,  but Walter and Kate were already in San Fran by then.

Vic State Library has various digitised Melbourne Directories on line.

Thanks, JM, good idea. I had a wander through them, but without much luck. I looked in 1900 for Smith, Hunkin, Richey and Achon.
There was a Walter G Smith at 11 Pakington-st, Kew, and several other Walter Smiths, but nothing to identify their occupations.
Mrs Elizabeth Hunkin was the only person listed with that surname. In 1900 she was at Carlton, and in 1905 at Moonee Ponds.
Nobody listed at Achon, Acton, Aclon or similar in 1900.
A couple of Richeys, but not a familiar first name.
I was impressed that the directories had an index to navigate the alphabetised section. It's more efficient than browsing.
