marriage of Thomas Dyer and Julia Hannah Butler in Shadwell about 1865
« on: Friday 17 January 20 10:23 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a marriage between the above named people. Julia appears on the censuses as Hannah.
Their children were Eliza b.1867, Benjamin b.1874, Emma, b. 1876, Louisa b.1878, Thomas b.1880, Hannah b.1882, John b.1886 and Robert Henry b.1888, all born in Shadwell or Southwark.
I have the family in 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891.
I'm also looking for the marriage of Thomas's parents James Dyer b.1802 Shadwell and Eliza Linscott b.1807 Dagenham. They had 7 children between 1830 and 1850 and lived in Shadwell.
If anyone could help, I'd be very grateful.

You are right about Benjamin's birth.
In 1871 I have Thomas Dyer, carman,  living 13 Mary St, Shadwell, lodging with a fellow carman, Thomas Devalient and family. I'm pretty sure this is right as Thomas's sister Elisabeth married a Thomas Devalient in 1888.
It seems that Thomas's mother, Eliza, nee Linscott, died in Stepney Workhouse in 1870, and his father James, died in 1874 in Whitechapel. It looks like they had fallen on hard times.
Thanks for the additional child, Thomas. No, I can't find a registration for Eliza, just a reference to her on the 1881 census. Perhaps an 'honorary' daughter.
It's possible the family may have been nonconformists. Maybe that's why the marriages were not officially registered

What about the marriage (Image on Ancestry) for Thomas DYAR and Julia Hannah BUTLAND (I think it could be RUTLAND?) 15 Sep 1872 St John the Evangelist, Lambeth .

Also one for Julia Hannah BUTTER/Robert Richard RUTLAND 23 Jul 1866 All Saints, Poplar, Tower Hamlets, England .

In both cases Julia's father is John a Fishmonger.

Hannah Eliza Martha RUTLAND's marriage to Herbert Pannall Okill 5 May 1889
St George in the East, Tower Hamlets gives her father as Thomas Dyer RUTLAND occ: carman although one of the witness signatures is plain old Thomas DYER.

Still can't see her in 1871.
