I have been looking through composite images for the Parish of Pulverbach, Shropshire and noticed the routine use of Curates and Church Wardens.  It seems the Church Wardens were townsfolk [but I could be wrong].

What was the role of Church Wardens and how were they selected for the task?  Was any form of numeration applicable?
