Marriage Register Help in Eton 1919
« on: Monday 20 January 20 15:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I am trying to identify the wife of a relative who died as a result of his wounds from WW1 and was hoping someone may have access to marriage registers and be able to help.

He is remembered on his families grave stone together with wife Jessie up here in the north east but he died in St Albans.

The best marriage I can find is between Robert J Blair and Jessie Seymour which took place between July and September 1919 in Eton, Buckinghamshire. The free BMD reference is:

Blair    Robert J    Seymour    Eton    3a   2534

I'm hoping a library or archive may have some registers which someone can look at to find parents names or an address for me.

Thanks for the help,

Michael

The index number for the marriage is quite high so possibly registry office.

There is a birth in Eton reg district for a Jessie Seymour in Sept qtr 1897 (Mothers maiden surname Turner) , would that fit her age.
This looks like the family in 1911

To lookup a marriage in parish registers you have to know which church it took place in.  If it was a civil/registry office marriage it cannot be looked up

Thanks for the help everyone.

That sounds like the right family, her dad according to the 1901 census was the Queen's wardrobe man in Windsor Castle.

Thomas Finkall Blair was Robert's dad, he had a brother with the same name as well.

I think these are the correct two people I just want to prove it. I have done a newspaper search but can't find anything and can't really think of any other way to confirm the wedding without buying a certificate.

I hadn't realised the high number might indicate a registry office.

I think that the page numbers in any one district / quarter start off with C of E marriages and the higher ones are those needing a registrar present. I could not see anything in the newspapers either.

Edward is still working for HRH in 1939  :)

Thanks Rosie, I wonder if that was a life long career then.

He probably enjoyed it  ;D .  He does not appear to have died in the Windsor/Eton area though.
