THATCHER of UFFINGTON.
« on: Monday 20 January 20 15:49 GMT (UK) »
Mary Ann Thatcher was baptised on 13 Apr 1828 at Uffington, Berkshire. She married William Young on 28 Oct 1846 at Radley, Abingdon, and died in 1876.  Can anyone tell me anything about her parents John Thatcher and Ann.  I have no other information about them and can't find anything anywhere!  I'd be very grateful for any help.  Thank you.

What information does the marriage certificate have for her father.  Who were the witnesses.

The familysearch transcript of the baptism you mention does not name a father it just names mother Ann, have you seen the original

Thank you youngtug, Sloe Gin and rosie99 for your replies to my request. I shall be looking into them.

Rosie, I have a copy of the marriage certificate.  It says her father is John Thatcher, a Farmer.

The witnesses were Frances Minns and Hannah Young.

Presumably Hannah Young was Williams sister if I am looking at the right Young family in Radley 1841.  I think that you may need to see the original of the baptism record before looking for a John Thatcher married to an Ann.

Do you have Mary Ann in 1841 census

The baptism only has the mother's name listed, no father.

It looks then as though she has invented a father when she married and we should just be looking for a 'single' Ann Thatcher

Ian, are Uffington baptism images online
