Who is MAVINDA FESSLER
« on: Monday 20 January 20 16:06 GMT (UK) »
I am researching the family of Francis Fessler who married Laura Seltzer in Pennsylvania.  Their daughter was born on 14 July 1910 showing her name as Mavinda Fessler.  However, the remainder of the family history indicates that a daughter was baptized Pearl Louisa Fessler on 14 September 1910.  I wrote to the Schuylkill County CourtHouse to see if the name had been legally changed from Mavinda to Pearl Louisa, but there is no record.
Does anyone have any idea where I can confirm that Mavinda and Pearl Louisa are one and the same?
Thanks for any help.

Death Certificate for Mrs. Pearl L. Scheithauer - Mrs. Pearl L. Fessler gives the same date of birth 14 July 1910 as you did in your original post.

Looking at the birth certificate with Mavinda on it, for number of child of this mother, it says 1, so that would seem to rule out that she was a twin, which was one possibility I thought of since the baptism for Pearl gives the same birth date.

At the bottom left, it says "Given name added from a supplemental report" and below that, it appears to have the numbers 5.26.14.  Could that be a date indicating the name was added later?  The handwriting & amount of ink of the full name of the child looks somewhat different than the parents' names and the Certificate of Attending Physician part.

At any rate, in the days before Social Security and driver's licenses, I don't think people were always that concerned about making sure they had everything in order for identification purposes.

Thanks for all your work on these, Sandra.  I really appreciate it.  Unfortunately, Mavinda is still a mystery, though from everything I have learned, I think that between the time of her birth to the time of her baptism, the parents renamed her Pearl Louisa.
The newspaper articles are quite interesting though and will be added to the tree.
Again, thanks!
