Divorce Record Help
« on: Tuesday 21 January 20 14:31 GMT (UK) »
Hello!

I'm trying to find a divorce record for Matthew Madison Moralee and Clara Dorothy Gruttner who married on 26th January 1898 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1902 Matthew had remarried a Mabel Ashman in Jackson, Illinois. Clara was listed as divorced in on the 1910 census but I don't know where to starting looking?  I've tried searching for newspaper records, FamilySearch and randomly googling but no joy :( Any help would be brilliant.

Wasn't able to capture the whole notice in one clip of the preview pane. But the two clippings together has all the info.

It appears the divorce accrued in June 1901 in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Journal
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
June 4, 1901

Thank you! :)

Which site did you get this from so I can make a note of it?

It was on GenealogyBank which is a pay site. I'm not a member.
That's why I was only able to capture snips from the free preview panes.

You can contact the Milwaukee Public Library (www.mpl.org) and ask their Genealogy Section if they can get a copy of the articles that you want.

I have another if anyone can help?

I've searched GenealogyBank, ancestry and newspapers.com but I can't even find a date?

Norman James Gillespie
B. 3 August 1896 to James Henry Gillespie & Ida Mae Ingram

Margaret Eva Lenz
B. 15 January 1894 to Frank Lenz & Ida Schroeder

the couple married in 1919

by the 1930 census, Margaret is listed as divorced and living with her mother in Jamestown in North Dakota and she later married again in 1949 to Geoffrey Welch.

They had 2 children, Frank James b. 1921 & Dona b. 1926 which leads me to believe they would have a divorce between 1926 and 1930? as I imagine she would have wrote married in 1930 if she still was due to the stigma?

Any help would be great! :)

Perhaps this is when the couple split  ??? Norman James Gillespie crossed the border US to Canada 21 November 1927 on his way to Emerson  Manitoba - described himself as married but gives father as nearest relative - J H Gillespie Hancock Michigan.  Employer Tribune Newspaper Winnipeg Manitoba.
