Hi there,

Thanks again for this new information. Next step is finding the wife (if any) for Stephen John MacIsaac. How do I go about accessing death record, i.e. the certificate of death? That should have this information on it. This branch of the family seem to have died young, most of the others lived well into their nineties.

Possible marriage
Stephen Mcisaac
Marie Catherine Watson
1941 Randwick New South Wales

Possible death for her October 1964

www.findagrave.com

If you Google death certificates in New South Wales there are a few links there
You could maybe post on the Australian board maybe looking for an obituary for Donald which might mention his parents or where he was born that will help in confirming if he is your relation

NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. https://familyhistory.bdm.nsw.gov.au/lifelink/familyhistory/search?1

You can look for newspaper articles, obituaries etc at Trove https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Death notice for Donald, 1st column: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article15802795

Death notice for Margaret, 2nd column: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article18078513

Funeral notice for father of a Margaret, 2nd column: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article15674411

At Rookwood:

Mc Isaac   Donald   22 Jan 1920   44   SEC*M2*3**153
Mc Isaac   Margaret   19 Jul 1948   76   SEC*M2*3**153

Death and funeral notices for Marie, 1st page: https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=lL5f5cZgq8MC&dat=19641020&printsec=frontpage&hl=en

At Eastern Suburbs Cemetery:

GA - General FM A, Position 946
Stephen John (joe) McIsaac 22/03/1956
Marie McIsaac 20/10/1964

Looks like Stephen was an only child and he and Marie didn’t have children.

Thanks for the references, but a mistake with the 1920 date I think, he died in 1918. How do we know Stephen John and Marie had no children? If they did have, likely still alive today. So I'm not even sure where to begin there. If not, I guess the line is wrapped up.

Just looked through those references; I wonder about finding death certificates? That'd verify everything I think. Looking closely at Margaret's death shows a comma between Stephen and John. It reads as though she was mother to Stephen and John McIsaac. Is this an error on the paper's part maybe?

1920 may just be an error on the cemetery site. It’s him, as he is buried with wife and they are the only ones at Rookwood Catholic.

Stephen and Maria didn’t have children if you go by Maria’s death notice.

Yeah Stephen seems like only child indeed, given funeral notices there, despite the comma between "Stephen, John". Seems also that Margaret was a native Australian, or at least that her father had emigrated before her. Thanks again for help, looks like the case is wrapped up.
