POND Trowbridge early 19th century
« on: Wednesday 22 January 20 12:14 GMT (UK) »
Mary POND married Matthew Poole at Trowbridge St James 28 August 1815 and had apparently died by 1833 (see https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=730123.0)

However, Mary's origins are unclear.  One Mary baptised 1787 in North Bradley appears to marry there in 1809. Mary Sophia Pond was baptised at the non-conformist chapel in Trowbridge in 1795, daughter of James Pond and Frances Cook. However, that family appear to move to London soon after the death of one daughter in 1807 and there appear to be no other Ponds  in Trowbridge before the 1820s.

Suggestions for where Mary may have come from are welcome

When Sarah pond married Joseph HEALE in 1805 - one of the witness was Wm SMITH - and may be the same Wm SMITH was a witness again at the same Church in 1826, when Sarah POND married Joseph SCOTT.

(wish there was an advance search on Ancestry for witnesses, this is so useful on the Forest of Dean website to work our family connections).

There is a marriage of Amelia HEALE (Minor) father: Joseph HEALE - a labourer
to James ELLIS - 14 May 1828 - at St Mary's Devizes.
Whether this is the daughter of Joseph HEALE and Sarah POND is a question - but I can't see any baptism for an Amelia - but Amelia is on the 1841 census.

1841 Census, Devizes

James ELLIS - 24
Amelia - 23
Inesia - 2 (as transcribed) this is LOUISA - mother's maiden name: HALE - GRO Index
William - 5 months.  (Think this is William Hulbert ELLIS - mother's maiden name: HALE - D Qtr Dec Devizes)

on the 1851 Census, Devizes

James ELLIS - 33 - Boatman - born Wiltshire
Annibal - 32 - born Devizes
Louisa - 12
William - 11
James - 7
Ann - 4

Thanks

Sarah POND's marriage to Joseph Heale is interesting since Mary's eldest daughter was baptised Emma Heal POOL in Trowbridge in 1816.
