this book might help, if any of them were in New England early. It is at archive.org. there are 3 or 4 volumes, find the one for "P" and look through it.

Googling: "Penrose Great Migration 1620s" might help also, or change the date, or replace "Great Migration" with "Virginia" "Massachusetts" "Pennsylvania" "Maryland"  or the state/locality of your choice.

I found a Penrose referred to here

He was in the late 1600s in "Salem" somewhere. I didn't look closely enough to see which Salem--Mass., New Jersey or who knows where else. There could be a Salem in every state in the union, for all I know.

I tried another Googling strategy: "history of the penrose family in colonial america"
and found:

which says a Bartholemew Penrose arrived in Philadelphia in 1698.

so try different word combinations and you should eventually turn up the 1st one here. There might be a book like Savage's for the each of the other colonies outside New England, I don't know. I've only researched that early in N.E. and Atlantic Canada.
