McPherson - Campbell - (William Wallace)

My Grandmother, was Agnes Wallace McPherson (1894 (Scotland)-1965 died in Australia), daughter of Robert Henderson McPherson and Sarah McPhail Campbell. Sarah was from the Isle of Mull and they married in Maryhill, Glasgow.
Their other children were :-
Private James McPherson, ARG & SUTH'D HIGHRS, and KIA 30/9/1916, I'm told, on his 21st birthday.
Robert - disappeared during WWII and no-one seems to know what happened to him.

Agnes always proudly said that we are descended from William Wallace, & I would like to find out if this is true.

Agnes Wallace McPherson married Englishman (which was very controversial at the time!),  Albert Frederick Laughton on 14/4/1919 in Maryhill, Glasgow, where they lived until 1952 before emigrating to Australia.

I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the direction of where I could potentially find Wallace roots, if this is indeed true. I will be visiting Scotland in May 2020 & would love to have more information to enhance my trip. Thank you if you can help

There were no recorded children to William WALLACE, though you may be related through his brother John. (I know as it's  a family legend in my tree too - though I'm quite sceptical as the further back you go the harder to find verifiable records.  )

Yes, I am aware that there are no recorded children of William Wallace, and I too wonder if this is a legend tale in our family also. When my Grandmother signed her name, she always signed Agnes Wallace, she was very proud of this "fact" 

I have gleaned my information here from my Father's Life Story. Someone else did tell me that Robert Henderson McPherson and Sara McPhail Campbell did have more than the 3 children I mention, Agnes, James and Robert, but these children either did not live, or died very young.

Another RootsChat member has also told me that my great grandmother Sarah McPhail Campbell's parents were
John Campbell and Sarah McPhail.
I really do like the tradition they had then of including other family surnames in children's names.
Hoping to find where the Wallace fits in.

I think the name Agnes Wallace is likely the name of Robert's mother. The 1901 census gives Robert and Sarah's birth place as showing below:
