Hi Monica, I saw thr 16 year old, but thought that was too wrong, but the other 2 are quite close, my problem was knowing the correct county ( i know, its Renfrewshire, but not absolultely 100% on that), and then didnt know the appropriate parish areas to check.

I guess she would be a good 25 years old as she was born January 1886.  I will see if I can find those 2 and check then - I have got credits available!!!
Allison - Rumford Stirlingshire & Ireland

Burke - Glasgow, Clifden Galway
Duffy - Cleland Lanarkshire, Monklands, Falkirk, Ireland
Curran - Cleland, Ireland

It's not the 27 year old, as she is marries, with Duffy as her married name, and was born in Refrewshire.

Ditto the 26th year old who I had already checked I see.  Again she was the daughter of a family, and parent names were not correct - well actually both her real parents would be dead at this point!

Whats more, neither of them are 2 Gordon Place either ( or King Street for that matter!)

It might be time to see if I can access the Mill records, I know as I have previously thought about it, that that the Mill records are held somewhere centrally - I think perhaps at at the old Paisley Tech or UWoS. One of the coincidences  is that I actually went to school in Paisley in the early 1970's, I lived for 4 years in Linwood, and everyday I drove past the mills on thatside of Paisley, on my bus into Paisley to go to school!  I didnt know my relatives had lived there, and wasnt interested in family history then!!

Pity the census entries were no use  :-\

It is odd how a place we know or have lived in but don't know its possible significance to us until years later  ::)

Catherine didn't marry. She died in 1955 in Paisley. Her occupation showed as a threadmill forewoman (some connection with the family story you mention maybe?).

The valuation rolls for 1940 show:

Catherine DUFFY
Tenant Occupier
HOUSE 11 KNOX STREET (her DC shows the same)
PAISLEY

She showed at that address since at least from 1930.

Looks like it might be, and on further searching 2 Gordon Place became 24 King Street - away now to look that up !

Thanks everyone!!

2 Gordon Place did become 24 King Street in 1923 - unfortunately these buildings had beome slums by the time they were demolished in the 1970's

Thank you every one for all that help, it was brilliant!!
I know where Gordon Place/King Street & Knox Street were - yep I sat on the bus daily as a teenager going along Broomland Street, going back and forth to school in the 70's and never knew my relative lived so close!
