Arthur Albert Mason Woulidge
« on: Sunday 26 January 20 10:10 GMT (UK) »
Good day

I would like to get more information regarding Arthur Albert Mason Woulidge. Born April 1867, Radford, Nottinghamshire. Was "sent" (?) to South Africa. Why, when, how, etc would be appreciated. Criminal record? Secondly, did he participate in the Second Boer War? Any medals received? Any/all other information regarding him? He is my Step-Great Grandfather. Who were his parents and siblings, etc.

Thank you in anticipation

Braam

1871 census shows him as the son of Benjamin (60) and Eliza (22) living with them and 2 younger siblings in Shardlow Leicestershire.

1881 census has the same family group but a different address in Shardlow.

Thank you Nanny Jan and Sandra.

Sandra, the Breakwater Convict Station intrigues me. Is there any.information that you have regarding why he was sent there? I also believe he was sent to the Valkenberg Hospital in Cape Town due to a drinking problem? My Grandfather (Wilfred Thomas Woulidge - don't have the names of his siblings unfortunately) used to visit him there, I am told. I also do not have access to the sites that you sent via link, unfortunately.
