Good Morning,

Between 1871 and 1881 this gentleman married a lady called Rosalie, surname unknown, who was born in France according to the 1881 Channel Islands Census.   I would be delighted if someone could confirm the marriage details assuming, of course, he married on the Islands.......there are no details in the UK.

Similarly, by 1911 he is a Widower living in Dorset and I wonder if Rosalie died on the Islands.   There are no 1901 Census details for him in the UK or Channel Islands to offer a closer research field.

They are both in Jersey 1891 transcribed on F M P as Baumer and Banner on Ancestry. Rosalie born Dinard, France.  In 1881 she is a British subject

I think, without doubt, you have uncovered the correct lady.

I have since researched all the available BDM indexes across various websites using this new information but, sadly, no marriage uncovered...........that, of course, may be entirely my faulty research

But that database is only for the States of Jersey, and contains only Anglican records.

The picture is almost complete with the 1901 Census......I know he died in 1917.......it now remains to establish the marriage detail.

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for all your help..........the story of Alfred BANNER is almost complete EXCEPT........it has been discovered according to The Jersey Weekly Press and Independent published on 19/10/1878 that he reverted to his criminal ways and was committed to trial at the Royal Court for stealing a forcing pump with brass taps and a copper bell.

He was identified as a sailor belonging to HMS Dasher, meaning that he was still probably a Royal Marine.  He had an accomplice, Edward BEAVAN, also a sailor.

Can anyone help with the outcome of the trial please.......if he was jailed in Jersey for a substantial period (a year or more!!), and probably as a consequence formally discharged from the Royal Marines, it could help in establishing why he then remained in Jersey and subsequently met his wife.
