Different results from Ancestry & FindMyPast
« on: Monday 27 January 20 12:49 GMT (UK) »
I am searching the 1939 register for my grandfather and grandmother. I no longer have a subscription and can only access the basic information I know.
My problem is that when I do a search for just his name and birth year on Ancestry I get 3 results and he is the one at the top the same search on FindMyPast also gives 3 results but different ones!
I have searched for the exact names and birth year that's all.
His name was Walter Chambers b 1883. He would have been born I think in Solihull Warwickshire and was married to Connie. So why would the results be different do you think? thanks

Findmypast open redacted records more frequently than Ancestry do for the 1939 register. The differences could also be caused by a transcription error. Try being less exact with your search.

Hi
I can't find him on FindMyPast at all and struggling to find them elsewhere.
If you try and Dorridge you might have more luck
Walter born 5.8.1883
Connie born 13.6.1893

The index search gives two lines crossed out below the couple

He is transcribed as Chanbus on F M P - Looking at the original I am not surprised ;D

Now I understand I thought by using the info I knew was correct it would find him but it seems that there were a lot of transcription errors - not surprising really!
I still can't find them by using the FindMyPast address search though and my Mother and Uncle would have been there also as suggested by the Chanbus entry

If he was a domestic gardener, he's there safely with Connie and two redacted people in 1939 in "Ancestry", coming up as the first offering.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Yes he was a gardener Would the other names not be available because they were born 1922/23 so not 100 years? Still don’t know why Four Ashes Cottage is not found on the address search as that was definitely correct as I lived there for a while!

There is no place for House names on the address search.  As there is no apparent road name maybe they did not know which road to list it under.

It was definitely Four Ashes Road and there is a Manor Farm on the list which was virtually next door but no mention of Four Ashes Cottage I clicked on all the other addresses but nothing
