Newspapers for sure, but make sure you read the different papers - sometimes you'd think the reporters attended different trials, so much do they differ in what they report.  My own research has shown that the Sheffield Daily Telegraph and Sheffield Independent wildly differ, on occasion, in the facts they report.

The Wigan Observer and District Advertiser 26 April 1873 reports that James Hilton, Warrington Lane Wigan was charged with the manslaughter of Elizabeth Taylor, so Robert Disley  and Robert Brown were not responsible.

I've always found the outcome of any trial in the newspapers.  Also found references to people in the criminal registers etc on Ancestry.  In fact I am just wading through them now; the man who almost killed a relative here in Yorkshire spent 20 years in prison on the Isle of Wight, was released, and re-offended regularly until he was "presumed dead".  So much info out there these days.  Sometimes these criminal records state the outcome of a trial too.
