Marriage of Elizabeth Penson to John Kennedy Macclesfield
« on: Tuesday 28 January 20 17:58 GMT (UK) »
FamilySearch has marriage of Elizabeth and John 10 September 1849 with image from Cheshire Parish Registers, but there are 2 further entries - "intended marriage" one 4 August 1849 and the second for an earlier marriage 14 February 1847; neither has an accompanying image.

I would be grateful if someone with access to these records could confirm that the earlier record exists, and is not a typo.

Perhaps someone got cold feet, then changed their mind a couple of years later!

Thank you, Ssxy.

They married 10 September 1849. He was 22 and she was 21 so perhaps the parents made them wait until Elizabeth was of age. Image is on FindMyPast and no sign of any previous attempts to marry.

As per post, indications are that Cheshire Parish Registers 1538-2000 have have two "intentions of marriage" 1847 and 1849, suggesting such intentions were recorded, but seems images of those entries are not displayed on FamilySearch or FindMyPast websites ???

FamilySearch for example has 3 different records - with images, for Elizabeth's son William's marriage at Prestbury in 1871, Application for Banns, Banns and Marriage.

Thanks for observation about Elizabeth not being of age (19) in the earlier record. Two weeks after that Parish entry she gave birth to William but had to wait two years to marry the man who was almost certainly the father.
