Looks like he was a Private in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Irish Fusiliers (Princess Victoria's). Served from 1899-1902.

I believe his name was Joseph McCoy from Dundalk, County Louth. When he enrolled he was 23 years old. Occupation: Turner. He was single. He enlisted on 17 January 1899. He was 120 lbs. and stood 5'5 3/4" tall and had grey eyes. He was Catholic. I attached some screenshots. Looks like he fought in several locations and earned many medals as well.

For Civil Records, it looks like two Joseph McCoy's were born in 1876: https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-perform-search.jsp?namefm=Joseph&namel=McCoy&location=&yyfrom=1876&yyto=1876&type=B&submit=Search

On 12.2.04 he married Anna Hendrick in Newscastle. The minister was Thomson, P.P.

Their children were Annie born 1.2.08 and Mary Kathleen born 26.7.09 (Dublin).

His mother was named Mary and she lived in Dundack. He also had a brother named Michael.

He was discharged on 19 July 1915 because he was no longer physically fit for war services.  He was enlisted for 7 years in Army service and 5 years in reserve service.

I highly recommend getting a free trial to this site so you can view his military records: https://search.findmypast.com/record?id=gbm%2fwo363-4%2f007280580%2f00310&parentid=gbm%2fwo363-4%2f7280580%2f32%2f306

I couldn't find him in the 1911 Irish Census, but my great great grandfather fought in the RIF as well and he was listed as living in London at the time so maybe you can look for him there as well?

I hope this was helpful!

The record shows he served in S Africa from Oct 1899 to Jan 1903.  A short piece on the R Irish Fus in the Boer war is here:  (scroll down for 2nd Battalion):
https://www.angloboerwar.com/unit-information/imperial-units/649-royal-irish-fusiliers

His Great War service overseas was with 1st Battalion from 12 Sep 1914 to 24 Feb 1915.  The war diary for that period is here at the National Archives:
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7352154  download for £3.50

Medal records are on Ancestry if you have a sub as is the war diary.
