If you can give me some clues, I could do a wider search later.

OK, that would be great. I'm still after Edward Jones who according to most of his census entries was born in Ruyton XI towns in 1845. This was in the Oswestry district, of course. On one census he gives Oswestry, and on one he gives Hopton as birth places but, apart from this, Ruyton is constant. On one later census, he gives 1848 rather than 1845 as his birth year but only that once, so 1845 or possibly 1846 is more likely.

I've just ordered all 4 BCs for the Edward Joneses born in Oswestry district in 1845.

I thought so, R Xl Towns is a separate parish

https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SAL/RuytonOfTheElevenTowns

It's in the Oswestry hundred not the parish.  Will check it out

Yes, there's a family there in 1851 which might be his, but I just haven't been able to tie it down. I've researched that family extensively, and would like it to be the right one, but still can't make any definitive link. I've even walked around in Hopton and Ness, hoping for inspiration! Nice area.

Yes, mellow Shropshire.

An aside - there was an Army Camp at Nesscliffe and Bobby Charlton was there when he did his National Service.  I think he was also at the Oswestry  one too.  :D

Have you got a marriage for him?  Surely that would give his father and occupation.

If his father was Edward, a blacksmith , then we've got him

Is this the 1851 one?  Motherother is Jane, a widow.

HO107/1994/434/5

That might be the 1846 one.
