Jacques/Jaques
« on: Monday 03 February 20 16:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I'm wondering if new eyes can help me get any further with the parents of my 5 x great grandmother.

My 5x great grandma is called Elizabeth Jacques and married my 5x great grandad William Woodward in Mattersey Notts in 1823. I have them in the censuses, and in 1871 there is an Elizabeth Jacques living with them, transcribed as age 80 but I read it as 89 which makes more sense if daughter Elizabeth was born 1800-1803. Mother Elizabeth is listed as being born in SA and daughter is listed on various censuses as being born in SA or Woolwich.
On familysearch I found a christening of an Elizabeth "Jacks" to parents Charles and Elizabeth in 1800, Chaplaincy to British Forces Cape of Good Hope SA.
Can anyone find any more information on this couple and other possible children or any other sightings of the 89 year old  Elizabeth Jacques in Mattersey in the 1871 census
Thankyou

Possible death

Elizabeth Jacques Mar 1875 East Retford 7b 1 aged 97

East Retford is the Registration District for Mattersley. Age is a bit out re the Census but, of course, is only as good as the knowledge of the person supplying the information.

Thankyou for your help, its confusing with them both stating ther place of birth as SA (or one one census Woolwich for Elizabeth Woodward nee Jacques, which made me think she was a soldiers child)

mmm I wondered if it was an older child baptism, once the family returned from SA. But just checking Freereg. It would seem not.
