KEDERT ~ KEDWARD ~ KEDARD
« on: Monday 03 February 20 20:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am chasing a William KEDWARD who was baptised in Lllanwrthwl, Brecon, son of Thomas Kedward of Old Radnor.
By the time William reaches Tredegar in Monmouth he is known as KEDERT. In trying to make sure this is the same person, I have found records in Kington, Hefds where KEDWARD and KEDERT and KEDARD seem to be interchangeable.
Kington is not far from Old Radnor so I am hoping someone familiar with Kington may be able to help me.
here's hoping

Avril

Can you include dates please?  You haven’t given any date for the baptism or date when he “reached Tredegar”

If you have him on censuses - please post details.

I think William KEDERT was baptised as William KEDWARD in Llanwrthwl 3d Dec 1815 base born son of Thomas KEDWARD and Mary Pugh.
The next siting of William is his marriage to Susannah DREW on 9 Sep 1839 in Bedwelty. Both William and Susannah are said to be 'of Tredegar'.
The 1841 has them living in Charles St, Mountain Ash.
I'm trying to prove that KEDWARD, KEDERT KEDARD  are the same name. Last night I searched FindMyPast and the results in Kington showed the names  appear to be interchangeable, yet when I search again this morning, all I get is Kedward!
I'm hoping someone is chasing this family and can help
However - there is a fly in the ointment. William's marriage record gives his father also William a 'limer', so I wonder if he is a step parent to William?

If anyone els is trying, and getting as confused as me, freebmd has the name as Rodart on the marriage, and Familysearch has it as Redart on the 1851,  where his occupation is housekeeper.

Mike

On the 1851 I think he is a horse keeper. Would that be down the pit?  I have seen them called Ostler too
It seems you can read a K as a B and an R
His bapt is transcribed as Bedward.
It's no wonder I'm chasing my tail!

That would be much more likely.  :)

His birthplace in the 1851 is interesting, llanwrthwl is such a tiny place that you would not know it existed unless you had been there.

Naming the first son theophilus  may be a clue, also Rhayader and Kington are part of a long established sheep driving trail, right through to Leominster in Herefordshire.

Even today I never know if I am in radnorshire or Brecknockshire, but it’s quite “chapel” round there

Incidently do you have the 1839 marriage certificate.

Edit.     I see you have the cert, father a limer,  involved maybe with burning limestone for fertiliser,  associated with the quarries around old Radnor, but many other places as well
