« on: Wednesday 05 February 20 14:28 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking information about this family probably living at Carolina near Cootehill from the late eighteenth century. Jane Arnott married Archibald Stewart in 1837.The Arnott family christian names were Hugh, Henry, William and Robert.

Hi

I'm new to Roots chat.

I live near Cootehill.

Carolina is approx 2 miles from Cootehill Co Cavan ...8 miles from Ballybay Co Monaghan

As far as I know Carolina is County Monaghan as it's off Ballybay Road.

I don't know of any names you mention  but there are a few options to search.

Families around here know each other because they've been here generations so if you put note in paper it's gonna get noticed.

1/ Write or email local paper The Northern Standard Fao Editor..Its published every week.

2/ Contact Cavan Library they have  genealogy Dept.

3/ Contact Monaghan library.

4/ Anglo Celt is weekly Cavan paper

It's quite difficult to find records pre 1864..

There might be via church records but i dont know which church to advise you to ask.

The census of 1901 or 1911 are available.Previous census may not be some were burnt

Also Valuation of tenements 1856/7 will show who was on land & whether owned or leased.

I was researching my own  family tree but on paper could only get back to 1830.s

After running out of paper options
I did DNA test that certainly helped me discover some cousins ( both sides family ) who had emigrated..It lists close 1st to distant 5 to 8th.It even tells you DNA amount Cm you have over segments.

Librarys here closed at moment due to Corona virus

I'm not sure about the papers. If you email them.

Good Luck

S

Hi

My grandfather was William Stewart (Robert's son)

We didn't know until I saw this today what his grandparents were named.

I may have some info on the other part of their family tree that may help you.

Best wishes

My grandfather was James Stewart, Robert's youngest son. That makes us second cousins
