If you know the mother was known as ‘Mary’ and buried in that name, what do you have with her name as Catherine/Katherine?

It bothers me that the tree I saw has no verification through records for the names.
Do you have Patrick’s military record?
Exactly what information do you have which is supported by certificates and published records?

There are these births to consider

1890 December quarter Stoke Damarel vol 5b pg 275
Eleanor Mary Hamilton mmn Bourke

(Stoke Damarel covers Devonport)

1894 Tendring March quarter vol 4a pg 583
Herbert William Hamilton mmn Burke

1895 Tendring December quarter vol 4a pg 575
Frederick Joseph Hamilton mmn Burke
Tendring covers Harwich

The names, dates and places of birth match the children’s names in 1911 and the death in 1909.

I can’t see Eleanor in 1891 and the family in 1901.

Well, what super finds Mckha489  ;)

I woke up this morning fearing a tale of woe but it is just intrigue.
Those published trees will need to be reassessed.

Pammi63, you mentioned the Boer War - it seems that Patrick was in South Africa before that - I wonder if that link has been passed through the family.

did You notice the Geo V Hamilton signatures (on the attestation  and the marriage cert) VERY confident and flamboyant.

I can’t help thinking that is significant, but not sure why.

There are references in ‘U.K. Military Deserters’ to Patrick O’Brien b 1854/55 of Ballyragget with desertion date April 1879/1880.
These are only from an index and the records are at Fold3. His regimental number is 5993.

Maybe he enlisted in his own name, deserted and then re-enlisted under an assumed name?
