Workhouse records, Oswestry
« on: Thursday 06 February 20 20:39 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone any experience of checking workhouse records? I understand they are kept at Shrewsbury, in the archives, but what do they actually consist of?
I'm interested in someone who gave birth there in 1845 - is it likely there would be any more information about her?

Thanks in advance.

When I contacted them about an ancestor born there in  1866, they didn't have any records. Nothing on the mother. It would be worth contacting them as they are/were very helpful.

This was many years ago though.

A listing of what they have is at the bottom of the page

It doesn't look as if they have anything for 1845

Thanks Gadget. I may need to do that.

Incidentally, have you ever had problems with the GRO's PDF service? I ordered 4 birth certificates on 31st January, so today was the fourth working day after that. Two certs were uploaded OK at 08.28 today. The third says it has been despatched at 13.19 today, but there is no PDF there. The 4th is still showing as "in progress".

I'll give it till tomorrow, but wondered why number 3 is showing as despatched, when nothing is there.

I've only had  2 or 3 pdf certs but they were ordered  separately and all came through.
