Richard Preston b 30 Apr 1841 Yapham cum Meltonby

The above was the son of Richard Preston 1811-1873  and Sarah nee Robinson 1806-1843. At 1851 he as living with his maternal grandfather, Thomas Robinson at Fangfoss and by 1861 he was a farm carter at North Newbald working for John Mattesson, a farmer.
There are trees on Ancestry that say he emigrated in 1864 to the USA married Margaret Pitt and passed away 13 Feb 1925 and buried at Stanley, Ontario County, New York.
However although the evidence points to it possibly being the same man, he seems to have become Richard G Preston once in the USA? He was born and baptised as just Richard?

I wouldn't worry too much about the G  People changed names at the drop of a hat, switched them around, added middle names etc so if the cap fits otherwise......
