It would help if you could tell us where he lived, where he was born (or said he was born) and where the marriage you mentioned took place. Also, what was his occupation?

I think it might be the 1861 census
in Blackburn:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M75F-XLS
6 year old Briggs with grandparents Briggs and Peggy Holden!
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids. They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Other names but no 6 yr old Briggs

If there is only one birth in 1855, there are two 1861 census entries.
The one BB mentions and
1861 3110/53/18
Thomas and Nancy Holden with children including Briggs, 6 yrs.
Another child Benjamin, 2 yrs has mmn Holden.

Possible:
March quarter 1856 - Blackburn Registration District - page 396
James Holden and Ellen Holden appear on this page. LancashireBMD say that the marriage was Blackburn Register Office or Registrar attended.

1871
Margaret [Peggy] Holden 71
Ellen Holden 34 - married
Briggs Holden 15 - grandson
Benjamin Holden 29 - son
Alice Holden 27 - d in law
Briggs Holden 3
Jane Holden 4
This is how they are listed in the image as well. which suggests the older Briggs is related to Ellen
