Date Picture Please?
« on: Sunday 09 February 20 21:02 GMT (UK) »
I would be really grateful if someone could try to date the following picture for me please? I know that the man, middle-row, second from the right, was born in 1902 and died in 1961 - his name was Ernest Moon. The man above him died in 1965 and looked much, much older at the time, so this is definitely way before then.

I believe this may be a day trip by the Plumstead Radicals (a men's club), in Plumstead, South-East London. My attempts to date the bus or the company haven't led anywhere, either.

Thanks, Stephen

Hi Stephen and welcome to Rootschat!

a-l and Carol think 1950's and I think if that's the case then it surely is early rather than late 50's - I'd think that Ernest looks like he's late 40's early 50's.

And if it is Ronald Pay in middle row on left, he'd be - what - early 40's?

Those very wide trouser-legs look like pre-war 'Oxford bags', so I would suggest the date of the photo is very soon after WW2, say 1946 or shortly after.

I started work in London in 1950 and can hardly believe that this style was still so popular by then, but of course memory can be faulty.

Late 1940s/early 1950s - judging by the bus!
