John Wallace born 1915 , died at Thurleston, Ettrick 1949 , burial place ?
« on: Wednesday 12 February 20 19:37 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Trying to find something out for a lady.....Iím not a relative, just saw the request on Forestry Memories website and want to help if I can.
This ladyís father died in 1949 from a Forestry accident. His name was John Wallace, born in Kirkcudbrightshire in 1915. Married Gertrude Scott in 1936. They lived at 2 Hermitage Place, Leith Links, Edinburgh. He died at Thurleston, Ettrick on 26/7/1949.
His daughter, now 80, would like to know where her father is buried or where his remains are.
Please, if anyone can help, please do!
Thank you,
Shona

He died July 26th the tree he was cutting killed him.

There is nothing in the British newspaper archive.

One would think he would have buried in Leith Links or maybe cremated.

Did her mother remarry?

Don

Hi Dom,
I donít know if his wife remarried. All the details I know are in my original posting.
I would just like to be able to help his daughter find out where he is!
Thanks though, Leith Links may be a starter.

John Wallace born 1915, died at Thirlestane Glen, Ettrick, Selkirksire 1949.
His wife and he were separated. His wife, Gertrude Mary Wallace, did not marry again.
They never lived together at Hermitage Place, Leith Links, Edinburgh

Hi James,
Thatís great you found his family tree!
Sorry not to have replied to both your recent posts, been away and not had a chance to check!
Does Johnís family tree give any more info than we already have? Where did you find it?
Interesting that he and his wife separated. I wonder if thatís why his daughter doesnít know where he was buried/where his remains are?
Iíll keep searching!
Best wishes,
Shona
