Hi Sandra,
I did his family tree for several generations. I doubt if it would be helpful in finding his Grave. Others are mainly buried in Kirkcubrightshire. I have photocopies.
The daughter [Moyra] stayed with her mother and she was never told where he was buried.
It appears that, after a war injury, he was an insurance man in Edinburgh before going back to forest work.
There was an elder daughter [now dead] at the funeral. Her children do not know where.
There is a suspicion that his separated wife used her name for the funeral / Cremation.
Her name is Gertrude Mary Wallace nee Scott or Sanderson. She died in the year 2000 and was cremated at Falkirk .....James

Hi James,

I have conducted a search of the records we hold and cannot locate any information relating to John Wallace using the name and date of death you provided. I have attached the contact information for the private cemeteries and crematoria in Edinburgh who hold their own records, you will need to contact them directly.

Regarding Newington Cemetery, unfortunately the records we hold for Newington are not great. Previous owners of the cemetery had not recorded well and the cemetery was abandoned, we believe burials may have been completed without records being held, records were damaged and in some areas just do not exist. I am glad you were able to locate the grave.

Kind Regards,

Danielle.

James, with John being estranged from his wife, have you considered that he may have been buried/cremated close to his own own family?

He didn't have any ties to Midlothian did he?

Monica

Moyra and I have looked in Mid Lothian, The Borders, and all the way round his own home country.

This should be ''Thirlestane'' as given on the Sheriffs Entry

The nearest Cemetery and Crematorium to Hermitage Place is Seafield Cemetery and Crematorium. Could he have been cremated there if the poor man was brought back to Edinburgh. Seafield Crematorium was opened in 1939.

I have been in touch with several people. There are no records of John at Piershill and Eastern Cemeteries. Neither is there a record at Seafield.
I’ve contacted bereavement@edinburgh.gov.uk, but no reply as yet.
I have asked under the name John Wallace. Looking at the other posts, is it feasible he was buried/cremated with his wife’s maiden name then?

Thanks,
Shona

I noticed that the death was late on a Friday Night. Possible that he was working during the week and came to Thirlestane Glen at the weekends. There is a photograph of him near Leith Links I think.
