I have received Thomas Richardson`s death certificate for 9th December 1879 which confirms this is the correct one

When and where died- 9th December 1879 Newham Barns Newham which is where his daughter Mary Ann, husband Edward frazer were living on the 1881 census
Age at death- 74 years
Rank or Profession - Roadman
Cause of Death- Old Age

Excellent news    That puts his birth year back to 1804-05 so I'm still inclined to think that Thomas baptised in Gosforth 1798 could be an earlier Thomas.

It's definiely building up a good picture though
