Workington Star newspapers WW1
« on: Thursday 13 February 20 22:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Does anyone know a way to access the Workington Star Newspaper archives for WW1?
The British Newspaper Archive doesn’t cover these years and the only other way seems to be by visiting libraries in Cumbria.Which is impossible as I’m not in the UK.
According to the index of servicemen available online, There appears to be articles concerning some of my ancestors.I’d love to see them, but don’t know how.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Depending on the type of article, they can often be found in other newspapers around the country.

What articles and what names - or have you already tried in the BNA with no success?

Depending on the article they may appear in other Cumberland newspapers, ie: the Cumberland News or depending on the date the Cumberland Pacquet. I could check those for you.

You could try contacting Workington Library, although I don't think they offer a lookup service.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. With all this Covid19 going around I’d dropped off doing anything tree related.
Anyway, the articles I was looking for were letters home from soldiers, so I doubt they would have been printed elsewhere.I presume they would have been of local interest only.
Apologies again for the delay.
